Our story

Where the name comes from.

Red Skies Yoga takes its name from the old sailor’s proverb: red skies at morning, take warning; red skies at night, sailor’s delight. At its heart, it is a reminder to notice the conditions before deciding how to move.

Yoga asks the same of us. The body does not arrive on the mat the same way twice. Some days the practice calls for strength and challenge; others for patience, stillness and release. With time, we learn to read the weather inside the body - to know when to press forward, when to yield and what is asking to be honored.

Over the years, the name has grown to hold another layer of meaning. Red reflects the root chakra - grounding, stability and belonging - while the sky represents openness, possibility and freedom. Together, they express the balance at the heart of practice: deeply rooted, we rise. Grounded in flight.

Founded by Heather Nelson, E-RYT 500, Red Skies Yoga is home to an experienced, deeply connected teaching community dedicated to helping students move with strength, awareness and confidence.
